Me Chart and its significance

Me chart is a pictorial representation of one self, with short term and long term goals and ones mission in life. I learnt this concept from a Jaycees trainer, during a training session he want us to draw a Me chart, at that time i did not understand the significance of Me chart, i just created my Me chart and displayed him. He asked me to paste this chart on my house and wants me to look at it often many times in a day. I did paste on my house and started looking at it often, but never had much trust on this, time went on nothing happened, we vacated our house and moved to a new place (May 2005), i forget to paste my Me chart on my new house and i forget it once for all. I went to my native place, last month (Mar 2010), while cleaning my room i accidentally noticed my Me chart on my suite case and i opened it after five years, to my surprise i realized most of the things on my Me chart happened in my life and it continues to happen.
What is a Me chart?
Me chart hast four parts with only drawings or pictures on it without any single letter or character. Take a white chart and draw a horizontal and vertical line and split it into four quadrants, on the top left portion of the chart represent your name by drawing or pasting any picture, without using any single alphabet, on seeing the picture one should decipher your name, on the top right portion draw your short term goals without writing any letters, on the bottom left portion draw your long term goals in life and on the bottom right portion draw your mission in life, paste this chart were you look often and start looking at it everyday, i bet your dreams will come true within a short span of time. Have a try, it worked out for me, it should workout for you!

Things to know before starting from Chennai to USA

  1. First and foremost is to know car driving. Learn car driving at India itself and if possible get an International driving license. Its both time saving and cost effective.
  2. Bring with you a flat pin adapter to charge you laptop and mobile. Here the round pin what we use to have doesn't fit into the plug points.
  3. Keep your email id as short as possible. Here you have to provide your email id for each and every thing and you need to pronounce each and every letter of your email id (eg. In case you have a email id like umamaheswaran@yahoo.com then you have to pronounce like this "U as in umbrella, M as in Mango, A as in Apple, M as in Mango, A as in apple, H as in Henry, E as in Edward, S as in Sam, W as in Whale, A as in Apple, R as in Rock, A as in Apple, N as in Nancy").
  4. If you have kids bring along with you all their medical prescriptions, immunization certificates, you need them for school admission and medical checkup.
  5. It takes a minimum of one month to understand the US accent fully. Get used to US accent by watching some movie or TV shows.
  6. Bring along with you, your subject books and technical books. Here books are more expensive.
  7. Its better to have scanned soft copies of your certificates, passport and visa. Otherwise you have to search for a scanner or fax machine, every time you want to send a copy of them.
  8. Switching job is not easy, like uploading resume on naukri.com and getting the interview call next day morning and getting the offer day after. Here some employer has to hold your work permit.
  9. Take adequate tablets and medicine for fever, head ache and if you are wearing contact lenses, buy adequate stock at India itself. Here you cant buy lenses without prescription, also they are expensive.
  10. Learn to cook in case you don't know how to. Indian restaurants may be far from your hotel.
Enjoy your trip!

Beware of MLM guys at shopping MALS

You will be shopping alone or with your family at a famous shopping MAL and most of the time discuss with your family in your mother tongue (TAMIL). All of a sudden, somebody coming into that aisle, will smile at you and start talking to you.
I am just translating the experience I had at one of the Indian Grocery store at California.
MLM guy: Oh you are Tamil? isit?
I : yeah I am from Chennai.
MLM guy: Which part of Chennai? Next question follows.
I: I am from Manapakkam.
MLM guy: Oh really? I am from Guindy! See how close we are?
MLM guy: When did you come to US?
I: I came here on January.
MLM guy: Where are you staying now? Here in SunnyVale.
I: Oh no, I am in San Roman.
MLM guy: Oh is it? I am going to San Roman now to meet my friend, Come let me give a ride to your home.
I: Oh Thank you sir, (I am happy, no need to go by bus right?)
MLM guy: Give me your contact number. I will add to my contact list.
I: Oh sure (I gave me number).

(Note that guy is not allowing me to talk and think, and keep on asking subsequent questions. Thats their skill)

He drops me at home and went, some days later, called me and said we are having a business meeting at San Roman this week Saturday at 6.30pm, can you join us? It will be helpful to you and your family.
I did not attend that meeting. The next day he called me and said we have been waiting for you and went to the meeting late. Its okay no problem, will let you know the next meeting schedule; please try to attend that, without fail. He keeps on disturbing me like that and I end up changing my mobile contract.
So beware of people, who are talking voluntarily to you at any Shopping mall, they are talking to you with some hidden agenda. They are trying to add you into their MLM network. They will force you even if you are not interested and keep on wasting you valuable time.

We can forgive people who have stolen our money but not the one trying to steel our TIME.

Traveling is a journey not only outer!

Moving from one place to another for work gives us lot many trouble like packing, shifting and arranging, for these reason most of us do not want to shift from our comfort home. On the contrary, moving from one place to another teaches lot more lessons then one expect.

The place we just moved in would be entirely new to us, we are forced to meet new people, new challenges, we need to understand their culture, we have to learn the local language. Migration gives us fresh air to breath, new places to see and above all it attacks our ego at its very root.

When i first moved from my home town to Bangalore (High tech city), there was a huge difference in life style, work culture, calling seniors by name everything was new to me.

Now, when i move from my home Country to another country, everything is absolutely new. Right from my work to the community i live. Everyday there are new challenges, in those challenging situation i turn my attention towards GOD, towards my internal self, there would be an absolute surrender to the divine self, this surrender to the Self, gives the internal guidance and ability to face the challenges, and increases my faith in the divine self.

I feel traveling helps a person to evolve, make him versatile and above all shatters his ego and makes the person more humble, gives him an opportunity to remember and surrender to GOD, reinforces the connection between him and his divine Self.

Civilian qualities - hard to swallow but truth

Mobile phones
It was a bright Saturday morning around 8 am, Shinkansen - bullet train started from Shinagawa station to Mishima, 4 stations before Mount Fuji, the symbol of Japan. Shinkansen is full, as usual we are travelling on Unreserved compartment, no place to sit, most of us are standing, no mobile phone rings with latest hit song tunes, no louder laughs, no fellow passenger is talking in a louder voice, yet most of the passengers are having mobile on their hands sending SMS or playing games on it, all the mobiles are in silent mode, its a wonder. Some of the passengers are working on their Vaio (Laptop), some of the passengers are chatting, smiling to each other but there is no disturbance to the fellow passengers.
On each compartment there are four priority seats meant for physically challenged passengers, carrying mothers, mothers accompanying small children and for elderly passengers, near the priority seats the mobile phones must be in silent mode, passengers by themselves refrain from talking on their mobiles inside the train. Not a single passenger is talking on his mobile inside the train. Its unbelievable.

How to drive a Car on the road?
Usually human beings has to wait on the side of the road to allow the speeding car to pass by.
But here the opposite is happening, the car is waiting on the side of the Zebra crossing until the human beings cross the road. Then i realized the driver of the car is a human being, values human more than his car or his own ego.

Filth of pets.
Pets are most common among Japanese, especially Dog, may be because the reverse of DOG is GOD, the God we worship ;) Usually the owners of the Dog take it for a morning walk, the owner will have a carry back with him with some old papers, tissue papers, i wondered why every person walking with the Dog has a carry bag with some papers. It is for collecting the excreta of the Dog. We usually take out our Pets for leaving its excreta on the Streets, but here it is different. Nowhere we can find the excreta of the Pets or Humans on the streets.

Notice board on a Government Apartment.
Neighbourhood of mine use to talk in a louder voice, not only during daytime but on late nights to his parents on India. He was talking inside his room with all the doors closed, on that day there was a inspection from the Apartment management, they noticed the noise coming out of his room, the very next day they put noise attention on the notice board. Please have a look at it on the below picture.

On the Lift
I am working on the 19Th floor of our office, whenever i want to go down to 1st floor or basement through the lift, i will press the lift button and wait for the lift to stop on 19Th floor once it is stopped, manage to get in with a grim face, avoiding the people inside the lift, but the people inside look at my face and smile, expecting a smile in return, but i do not have the courtesy to smile back, i will stand tight lipped. Once the lift stops at 1st floor, i will try to get out of the lift first as if i am the VIP, somebody got into the lift on 20Th or 21st floor will still stand on the corner of the lift pressing the open (lift) door button on the lift, until everybody get out of the lift carefully without hurting themselves on the closing doors. Time and again i was doing like that very recently i also started looking at the face of the people inside the lift and started smiling at them, and now i am pressing the open button on the lift so that everybody get out of the lift first and i come out of the lift at last. Like an old English adage goes I comes last...
